Koningsdam adventure, Kahului, Maui...

I was up very early for our sail into Kahului, Maui this morning. Today we had a repeat performance from 2 cruises ago, Ann, Cathy, our friend Judy and I made our way to Haleakala National Park.  My sister Lisa & Jim decided on a beach day so off they went…  After picking up our car at the airport we drove to Haleakala National Park. Cathy drove the Crater Road, extremely winding but well-maintained road leads to the summit and offers breathtaking views of the West Maui Mountain. Haleakalā National Park preserves the outstanding volcanic landscape of the upper slopes of Haleakalā and protects the unique and fragile ecosystems. Rising dramatically to a summit of 10,023 feet, Haleakalā is the third largest volcano in Hawaii. We left lush tropical sea level in Kahului and travelled to stark moonlike craters and the summits cinder desert in less than two hours with a 30 degree drop in temperature.  We had a fun day in Maui and the weather was even better than our last visit except for the low hanging clouds or fog on our descent. We were back to the ship in time to enjoy some sun time.  Fabulous day!
