Koningsdam adventure, Honolulu, Hawaii...

I was up very, very early for sail into Honolulu, Hawaii. It was very dark but lovely all the same...  Loved watching the sun rise over Oahu.  We made a last-minute decision to rent a car and off we (Ann, Cathy, our friend Judy and myself) went on a circle island tour. Our tour of Oahu Island began with breathtaking views from the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout, with its dramatic cliffs and lush valleys that define the island's landscape. After backtracking, we made our way to Diamond Head, the iconic volcanic crater for stunning panoramic views of Waikiki. Following the shore, we traveled to Makapu’u Point’s vibrant coastal scenery and lighthouse. We then visited Kailua Beach Park and Kane'ohe Bay, indulging in the serene beauty of soft sands and clear waters. Continuing our adventure, we passed Mokoli’i Island better known as Chinaman’s Hat and Halona Blow Hole. We made a stop at the Valley of the Temples Cemetery for the majestic backdrop of the lush Ko’olau Mountains…what a great stop! Next, we explored Kuhuka Point stopping at various sights along the way. Reaching Waimea Bay on the North Shore, we stopped at Sunset/Ehukai Beach home to the famous Bonzai Pipeline, is the ultimate surfer’s playground and one of the most famous surf breaks in the world. From here we headed inland to head back to Honolulu and boarding our ship, the Koningsdam. For a spur of the moment decision our circle island tour of Oahu had some magic…Honolulu/Waikiki is quite developed, has lots traffic, and crowds…however getting out of town pays wonderful dividends in the extraordinary beauty and charm of the picturesque landscape we encountered today…a great day with great friends!
