Out on deck this morning the wind was fierce and the temperatures freezing as we sailed into Reykjavik…the scenery was well worth the cold. To beat the crowds, we took a taxi to town with our first stop at the Harpa Concert Hall. Behind Harpa is the Yacht Club and the reflections were spectacular. Next, we walked up to the Arnarholl Hill, with a statue of Ingólfur Arnarson, the first settler to Iceland. Passing by the Cultural House we made our way to Skokavordustiguer Street with the Hallgrimskirkja Church, in the background…This street is also known as the Rainbow Street, one the Reykjavik’s busiest streets. On each side of the road, there are souvenir shops, clothing stores and cafes. We visited the church and went up in the tower for a panoramic view over the city. Stopped at a cafe near the church for a bite to eat and then we made our way back to the shuttle pickup point and returned to the ship. The weather, once we docked, was lovely and a marked improvement from yesterday’s brutal wind. Iceland still does not disappoint!
Hi Jeff, Glad your day was a great success. Love the "Rainbow St. area." Love the taste of the Icelandic fish from the cold waters.
ReplyDeleteBeen without a computer for a while so am catching up on your adventures now. Got a new one and am still trying to figure it all out.
Safe travels.
