Seydisfjordur, Iceland... Part 1 of 2

I was up at 4:30am for sail in through the Seydisafjordur Fjord. It was quite cold with a low ceiling, but the scenery was beautiful, and the reflections were great. We took the first tender to town. In the past we had docked in town but being a Thursday, the weekly ferry was in so the reason for the tenders. Not far from the tender pier was Budareyrarfoss Waterfall. Cathy and I hiked halfway up the waterfall trail, a nice waterfall with a nice view to town. We intended to climb a bit higher, but the steepness of the bank did not have a good foot hold. From here we walked around the lake, headed to the town around the lagoon enjoying the views, the reflections and the traditional Icelandic architecture of colorful houses. Seydisfjordur is famous for its vibrant atmosphere, colorful wooden buildings, cafes, handicrafts, mountainous scenery, a hard-to-beat location. The town is located in the fjord, so we are not exaggerating when we say that the surrounding scenery is absolutely breathtaking.  The pretty Blue Church is an iconic sight with the rainbow painted brick road leading to the church…. We were lucky to be early and get our photos without the crowds. We started to walk out of town headed for Gufufoss Waterfall, the ladies turned around halfway, and I continued to the waterfall solo. The waterfall is not far off the main road. It is impossible to travel around Iceland and not see at least one incredibly beautiful waterfall per day and I was lucky to see a number of them today. It was a great day in Seydisfjordur…the weather cleared to a beautiful sunny blue-sky day!
