Isafjordur, Iceland... Part 1 of 2

I was out on deck at 6:30 am, the weather was nice for sail into Isafjordur with the Nieuw Statendam on our tail…  The Zuiderdam being a smaller of the two ships, we were able to dock in town earlier than anticipated.  Our guide/driver Svavar was early as well…this was good because we arrived at the Dynjandi Waterfall before the crowds.  Our friends from the 2020 Grand South America Voyage, Joan and Gary joined us on today’s excursion.  Joan and Gary are avid hikers so the waterfall climb was right up their alley.  The landscape driving to the waterfalls was spectacular and made more dramatic with the fog and mist that came and went.  It was raining when we got to the falls but that did not deter us from climbing up the waterfall.  Dynjandi Waterfalls, is the largest of its kind in the region and is rightfully coined as the “Jewel of the West Fjords”.  The rain did stop before we headed back to Isafjordur.  We had Svavar drop us in town and we went to the church, walked along the waterfront, stopped in the center of town to look for some souvenirs.  The town has some interesting-colored homes.  We headed back to the ship just in time before the rain started.  The clouds cleared and we had sun and blue skies for the remainder of the afternoon…a different look when the sun is out.  Another great day and tour in Iceland.
