Day 213 Ponta Delgado, Portugal (Part 1 of 2)

Ann, Cathy & I headed out around 9:00 to get a taxi to tour the Island of San Miguel from our port of Ponta Delgado…  We headed out to the east first hr=eading toward the area of Furnas with its hot springs.  We stopped at a lot of view points during the day showcasing the beauty of this magnificent island.  First we took the road out toward Ribeira Grande where we had a wonderful view at Miradour de Santa Iria…  The we went past the tea plantations and stopped at Pico du Ferro at Lagao das Fumas Lake, the it was off to Furnas and the stinky sulpher hot springs.  The area we toured, Largo das Caldeiras, was covered with hot bubbling water and steam vents, very nice!  After fully exploring the Furnas area, we headed to the other side of the island to Sete Cidades with its beautiful lakes.  I particularily like the adjacent blue and green lakes.  We made many other scenic stops along the way but these were the top highlights…..  Then it was back to Ponta Delgado….
