Day 204 Messina, Sicily (Part 1 of 2)

It was absolutely frigid out on the forward deck as we sailed into Messina, Sicily….  Ann, Cathy & I left the ship at noon when we arrived and hired a taxi to take us to Taormina which was about 45 minutes away.  I have never been there and heard it was beautiful so off we went!  Toarmina is situated high on Mt. Taura.  It is a very interesting old city with a medieval character.  The Greco-Roman Theater was very interesting.  It was built by the greeks in the 3rd century and later renovsted by the Romans….  The Public gardens were also interesting.  We spent a fair amout of time on the Corso Umberto with its many shops and restuarants.  We settled down at the Porta Messina-Taormina Restaurant for lunch and a little WiFi before returning to the ship….  Great day!!!
