Day 21 Beijing, People's Republic of China

We set off on our Beijing adventure early this morning with the Great Wall of China as our first destination.  We would be visiting the Great Wall at Juyongguan, a location which I have visited in the past.  One of the things that this segment of the wall is know for is that it is pretty steep…..  I can attest to that, I was really huffing & puffing when I arrived at the top.  The day wasn’t ideal due to extreme smog in the area but it was a nice visit anyway.  Next stop was the Ming Tombs & the Sacred Way…..  We stopped and walked the sacred way first with it’s beautiful willow trees and sculptures of animals  along the way.  Then, much to our surprise, we were not able to enter the Ming Tombs because the road was blocked for some international bike race….  Oh well!  We then headed off to the the Hutong for a tour via a ride on a rickshaw.  We also visited a home in the Hutong where we had a chat and Q&A session with the owner… very interesting.  I loved the area and seeing the folks in their everyday activities like playing games and exercising….  The evening was finished off with a wonderful Chinese dinner followed by an acrobat show, simply amazing….  WE checked into the hotel where I took a nice shower and had a massage before going to bed…..  What a day!!!!

  3. Your photos of that section of the Great Wall are breathtaking. You are my idol. I nearly died getting up on the wall at the much tamer Badaling section in March (where we encountered snow flurries).
