The Peruvian adventure begins: New York to the Sacred Valley...

I was up very early and out on deck to capture the morning sail into New York on the morning of November 21st...it is really a nice sail by the Statue of Liberty and the NYC skyline. That wasn’t the plan but the excitement of moving onto another adventure kept me awake.  Being our last day on the Volendam we said our goodbyes and were off on the ships transfer to Newark Airport heading to Lima, Peru. We had a great voyage and would be remiss in not expressing our gratitude to Captain Frank, Hotel General Manager Florin Dragomir and the excellent team for the kindness and generosity shown to us…we are truly touched, and we appreciate every moment we have shared on the Volendam. After our 8-hour flight to Lima we arrived at our hotel close to midnight…a very long day. It was an even longer night since my neighbors in the room next door, partied well into the wee hours. Just an overnight in Lima before catching our late afternoon flight to Cusco for our Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu adventure. The approach into Cusco was thrilling through the Cordillera de Vilcabamba Mountain Range part of the Andes in southern Peru with the highest point at 6,271 m or 20,574 ft…breathtaking scenery. We were picked up at the airport in Cusco for our 2 hours’ drive to the Sacred Valley. It was almost sunset so our drive through Cusco city center was at dusk, and it was as pitch dark on our journey to the Sacred Valley though the Cordillera de Vilcabamba Mountain Range…too bad…we hope to catch the spectacular scenery on our return to Cusco in a few days. So far, the high altitude has not caused us any problems, finger crossed…Good night for now and stay tuned.  I did capture a few shots sailing into New York, flying into Lima and on the drive to the Sacred Valley.  The new adventure is underway…
