I was up at 5 am for sail in for our sail into Loreto, Mexico, located along the Sea of Cortez, with its views of the Sierra de la Giganta mountains. Ann, Cathy and I got the first tender to town. Loreto is a quaint waterfront town in the Baja California Peninsula. We walked along the pier and then the picturesque Malecon to the center of town. Crossing the street we entered Loreto’s old town…From colorful buildings, plazas filled and tree-lined pedestrian streets there is plenty to see in Loreto Center. The center of the city is the large Plaza Civica, home to the Loreto Town Hall building. From here we walked along the beautiful street lined with an archway of trees leading to the Loreto Mission. Our Lady of Loreto Mission was built by the Jesuits in 1697. Adjacent to the mission is another small plaza, Plaza de las Californias with its bronze sculptures depicting a Jesuit missionary meeting with the local people. Loreto is a hidden gem, very laid back and completely the opposite to other Mexican stops. We came back to the ship after a few hours and spent the remainder of the day relaxing on the back deck. Tonight, we went to the Pinnacle Grill with some Guest Services staff for the Morimoto pop-up dinner. The food and company were simply outstanding!!!! Now, that’s all the good news… I’m not doing well at all with my hip and leg pain from sciatica. I may not be leaving the ship again until, hopefully, this situation has resolved itself. Today was a painful day of exploring….
