Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada... Part 1 of 2

Not a great morning for sail-in photos into Halifax…dense fog! Shortly before our arrival, the fog lifted somewhat... thankfully!  We disembarked the ship and meet up with our tour guide Bruce inside Pier 21. We started the day with a tour of Halifax taking in the Old Burying Grounds, Government House, the Churchill Statue, passing the Halifax Public Gardens, Camp Hill Cemetery, the Town Clock before making our way up to the top of Citadel Hill overlooking the city and the harbor. Driving out of town Bruce took us through some residential areas of Halifax to see historic homes. After touring Halifax, we headed to lovely Lunenburg. Lunenburg, Nova Scotia is a former rum running and ship building port town, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Talk about postcard-perfect!  Lunenburg is a fishing village of brightly painted British Colonial buildings built in the 1750s. From the colorful wooden homes and buildings to the magnificent 19th century churches, to the tall ships docked along the waterfront, Lunenburg is not short on sights to see. Luckily the fog cleared, and the sun came out for our drive to Mahone Bay. Mahone Bay is a picturesque town with its three iconic churches. We stopped for lunch at Joanne’s Deli and Bakery. Very highly rated and I can see why…  Lunch was great!!!  The weather driving around Mahone Bay was sunny and beautiful. We then drove into the fog heading to Peggy’s Cove, as luck would have it the fog lifted on our arrival a Peggy’s Cove. Peggy’s Cove is a small fishing village with an iconic lighthouse. It’s just so picturesque…  On our way into Halifax, we made a stop at West Dover, N.S., a small fishing village to see some fishing boats and at Horseshoe Island Park, an arm of the Halifax Harbor overlooking the Armdale Yacht Club. We had a great day and tour of the Nova Scotia South Shore with our a very informative guide Bruce of BruceTours.ca. It was another great day…  Loving my voyage on the Zaandam.  One other note…  someone took way too many photos today, so this blog is in two parts….  I should be in bed by now….
