2016 Grand World Voyage, Day 103, Monte Carlo, Monaco

A new day and a new port...Monaco.  Ann, Cathy & I left the ship around 8:00 to explore Monaco for a bit...  Squeezed into 2.8 sq. kilometers Monaco is the second smallest country in the world.  We left the ship to a panoramic sweeping view of Monaco and the Mediterranean.  We climbed up to the Palais Princier de Monaco in the city of Monaco known as the La Rocher district.  The palace was built as a fortress and is the private residence of the Grimaldi's and the official residence of (Prince Albert and Princess Charlene).  The La Rocher district is the only part of Monaco to retain the small medieval streets overlooking the country and the sea. The beautiful Monaco Cathedral is the grave site of Prince Rainer and Princess Grace.  Setup was underway for the iconic Formula One Monaco Grand Prix race...wow a very tight winding track!!!  We passed through Monaco's fabulous open air market stalls beneath the arches of the Place d'Armes.  The remainder of our time in Monaco was spent leisurely walking the streets and stopping for WIFI and refreshments to take shelter from the rain...Monaco may be small but makes up for it in attitude, glitz and glamour.  Great day...onto Barcelona Spain tomorrow!!!
