Day 100 Praia, Cape Verde Islands (Part 1 of 2)

Well we started with a slight delay this morning… the pilot was 45 minutes late coming to the ship so we just sat there.  Once we docked, Ian, Carole & I headed out to hire a taxi for the day.  We hooked up a guide named Clovis who got us a van and we headed out.  First we toured Praia, starting at the Vegetable Market….  The people there were fabulous!  We then went to the Praca Alexandre Albuquerque, a gathering spot for locals.  WE saw the Palace of the President and the statue of Diogo Gomes who discovered the Cape Verde Islands in 1460.  It was a nice scenic viewpoint…  Then we headed to the Sucupira Market which had just about everything.  Then we headed out to Cidade Velhe, the old town (a UNESCO  Heritage Site) where we visited the Fortress de San Felipe, the Pelourinho (Pillory) and Rua Banana.  On the way back we stopped at Cruz de Papa Monument for some spectacular views.  We had a really wonderful day….  Hard to believe 100 days has passed.  I plan on deciding on the next possible 7 month voyage by Wednesday…  just waiting on HAL to get back to my travel agent….  OH well, may just have to do something else….  Open a new chapter in my retirement.  Here is part one of today’s adventure!
