2016 Grand World Voyage, Day 80, Panna National Park, India (Part 2 of 2)

Another middle of the night wake up call and 5 a.m. pick up for our long anticipated tiger safari.  It was a 40+ minute drive over the bumpiest road in the world to the Panna National Park.  According to the tourist brochures and recommendation by our tour operator, tigers roam freely in a secure habitat along with leopards, wild dogs, wolves, hyenas, caracals and small jungle cats.  Our morning and afternoon drives through the wooded areas were dotted with animals such as sambar, the largest of Indian deer, wild boar, jackel, antelope and monkeys.  Although we didn’t see many, more than 200 species of birds are present in the park.  Contrary to popular belief we did not see any tigers or leopards.  We did come upon a jungle cat, similar in looks to a lynx.  I was able to capture some wildlife and bird photographs but was disappointed with Panna.  I realize there are no guarantees of spotting wildlife even though variety was present, the quantity was sparse.  It would not be a place I would recommend unless you are here in Khajuraho for temples and other cool things.... This is part 2 of 2
