Day 115 Mumbai, India

Another very interesting day in Mumbai….  It was a day looking at the side of Mumbai normally hidden from tourist eyes.  Ed. Becky & I headed out at 7:30 am for another day of exploration.  First it was off to the Sassoon Docks which could have been a major photo stop but…. No cameras were allowed for security reasons.  It was an amazing place.  Next, we went to the Dhobi Ghats at Colaba…  It was pretty interesting plus we got to go all around the laundry.  Then we went to the Iscon Temple which is part of the Krisna sect of Hinduism.  Nice visit but no cameras allowed.  Then things got pretty interesting, our guide took us on a surprise visit to 2 fishing villages, the Colaba and Versova villages.  They were great stops but a bit sad because they really fit in the slum category.  Since we had planned on visiting the Dharavi slums out by the Mumbai airport we became pretty over weighted with slums today.  Great photo ops none the less….  In Dharavi we also stopped at the area where they make pottery, really nice.  The most interesting thing about the slums is that they are a bustling center for business and commerce.  The people were very open and friendly.  Great day!!!

  2. Not sure what the security reasons would be for not allowing pictures, but what do you do with your camera(s), do you put them in cases, or do you just follow the rules and not take any pictures? Either way what a p.i.t.a. for you and for us!
