We arrived at the port of Quebec City early Saturday morning and were greeted by the Renè Tuinman, Hotel General Manager and escorted on the ship…so many familiar faces that we have sailed with before…we definitely felt as if we were returning home! The ship overnighted in Quebec City, so we spent the afternoon chatting with many of our old friends. As usual, I got up early and Cathy and I took the shuttle to Old Quebec. On this visit we are docked at Pier 30 in the commercial port and not as accessible to the city. On the plus side, we captured a different perspective of the city and found some new photo opportunities. Quebec City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and history can be felt everywhere in old Quebec…at every street corner, monument and historic site. This is a great city to wander and explore. The Old Port area offers stunning views and wonderfully casual atmosphere…a treasure trove of photography finds. To appreciate the long history is to walk the cobble streets of upper and lower town at the charming Lower Town area known as Petit Champlain and Place Royal….we explored the nooks and crannies of this area and before started our ascent to upper town. The funicular was not open when we started our tour, so we used the staircase and steep streets to climb up to the Chateau Frontenac. To capture the Chateau Frontenac, we walked along the Dufferin Terrace. We heard the bells from the Basilica and made our way to Notre Dame Cathedral for a visit to this beautiful church…we were lucky to get to the Cathedral just before the start of Sunday morning mass. We revisited the Lower Town of the charming Rue du Petit Champlain area on the hunt for wall murals and historic architecture. It was delightful to experience the fall season, the decorations and flowers were lovely. We never tire of visiting Old Quebec Port’s charming setting, but today's early sailing had us back at the ship before noon. We are happy to be back sailing as life is good on the Niew Statendam. I have way too many photos, as usual, so a separate blog will capture our sail away from beautiful Quebec City…
Bon Voyage! Off to a bangin start! Looking forward to all the updates. Thanks in advance for all the photos and writeups!
