The three ship solution....

Well, here I go once again with a new plan!!!!  This time, I went on the defense, with Hawaii hospitals at capacity and another potential lockdown looming, I decided to take the Hawaiian Islands out of the picture.  The last thing one needs when planning a long voyage if for huge gaps to magically appear.  Once again, I had to remind myself that we are still very deep into this pandemic.  Given the current state of affairs, the best approach for me is to take a very conservative approach and not venture far from the US.  So the solution was to come up with a voyage that involves 3 ships…  Yep!  Three ships, moving from one to the other on the same day, just grab your bags and move into a new ship.  The voyage will commence, as currently planned, on 10 October when I board the ms Koningsdam for weekly California Coast and Mexico cruises.  The Scott sisters join a week later.  Then, on January 2nd, we move over to my beloved Zuiderdam for three 14-day Panama Canal Voyages from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale, and back again.  We end up in Ft. Lauderdale on February 13th where we grab our bags, once again, and move to Holland America’s newest ship the ms Rotterdam.  We will be doing weekly Caribbean cruises until 17 April when it will be time to go home.  Is it the greatest itinerary in the world, maybe not but in this pandemic world, it’s just perfect for us.  I am so ready to be sailing, once again, with Holland America Line and see all my friends onboard.

  1. Whatever works and offers you the best options for a safe completion is the best option. Being back on board will be a huge win in getting things slowly back to somewhat normal life. I am looking forward to following along!

  2. Hi Jeff, So nice to see you'll soon be sailing again with the Scott sisters and other familiar friends and crew. Seems like an eternity since I've been able to enjoy your writings and pictures. You did help me get through a horrendous case of the Shingles the beginning of January. Six months and I kept telling myself Jeff was on vacation and he got through it, you can too. Thanks for the encouragement.
Hope your family is doing well. Anxiously looking forward to your next adventures.

  5. Loved your photos of SF. We lived in the Bay Area from 1973-93 and loved it. If you want to do a great walk on your next stop there walk out through the wharf, when you get to Aquatic Park take a left and go over the hill to Ft Mason, then through the Marina, the Presidio and Crissy Field. Then up to the deck of the Golden Gate, across the bridge, then down through Ft Baker and into Sausalito. Maybe grab some lunch and then take a ferry back to SF. Google has lots of specifics on exactly how to do this. The scenery is spectacular. The distance is about 10 miles or so.

  6. Hi Jeff:
I saw you on the Zuiderdam. I was doing a back to back in January. Question: When you changed ships did HAL help you with moving and COVID testing? I'm considering doing this in Nov/Dec. Thanks.

  7. COVID testing onboard before changing ships. They helped with the transfer
