Zuiderdam MegaVoyage 2018-2019, Zeebrugge, Belgium

Late start to the day...we arrived at the port of Zeebrugge at 10 am and made our way to the cruise terminal by port shuttle. A good choice was the Cruise Express transfer service to Bruges...we booked this online for 20€ Euro in advance of our arrival at Zeebrugge. It was a half-hour drive from Zeebrugge to the fairy tale city of Bruges. We set out on our own walking tour through the heart of the city. Once we entered the Old Town of Bruges, you could feel the historic atmosphere. We made our way through this picturesque city and winding alleys stopping at the Town Hall, the Church of our Lady, the Basilica of the Holy Blood, the bustling marketplace with its guild houses, and the Belfry Tower. Bruges makes it easy to believe you have entered a time warp. We opted not to take the open boat canal cruise due to the intermittent showers and strong wind and decided to walk along the canal and take advantage of the beauty of medieval Gothic Bruges...Bruges is an outstanding example of a medieval historic settlement which has maintained its historic fabric as it had evolved over the centuries. On our return to the shuttle, we meandered through the narrow, twisting cobblestone streets, passing by picturesque scenes of ancient buildings, tree-lined canals and gabled façades. Our day in Bruges was complete with the Belgium waffles, famous Belgian chocolate and frites. Even though the weather was very windy, cool with a mixture of sun and rain and the old city was packed with tourists, we really liked and enjoyed our time in Bruges.
