The hunt for wildlife this afternoon started slow...first
we had a lesson on the thorn bushes, saw our first black backed jackal and then
we went on a search for the cheetahs. After a bumpy ride up and down the hills
we finally found the cheetahs located in an elevated resting place....we were
able to get up close to the four cheetahs relaxing in the late afternoon sun.
On our return to the camp we encountered two female rhinos engaged in some sort
of dispute...the ranger told us this was a very unusual behavior. Back at the
camp we had delicious dinner and called it a night...today’s ride has taken its
toll on our muscles! Another 4:30 am
rising for our early morning drive...our mission today was finding the
lions...Wow! ...Two hours of trekking the back roads of Amakhala till we came
upon two majestic female lions perched overlooking the river bed below! The
wildlife today was scarce probably due in part to the early morning fog,
however, we did see some male ostriches, a lone giraffe having breakfast, a
pair of rhinos and a black backed jackal.
