Very early morning for our transfer to the airport and
flight to Phuket. We said our goodbyes to our excellent Guide Vee and our
exceptional driver Ache...they both went out of their way to make our stay in
Thailand special and are a credit to Diethelm Travel...great job. After arrival
in Phuket, we were transferred to our hotel to drop our luggage and begin a
tour of Phuket. Our first stop was the Karon Viewpoint, one of the most
frequented viewpoints in Phuket...with views of Kata and Karon beaches. Next we
went the Big Buddha - Phuket's Big Buddha is one of the island's most important
and revered landmarks. The huge image sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between
Chalong and Kata and, at 45 meters tall, it is easily seen from far away. The
lofty site offers the best 360-degree views of the island, with sweeping vistas
of the surrounding Phuket area. We continued to Chalong Temple...Locals come to
pray and Westerners come to learn about Buddhism. The Grand Pagoda dominates
the temple and contains a splinter of Lord Buddha's bone. The pagoda is
decorated inside with paintings depicting the Buddha's life story and also
features various Buddha images. Our last stop was the Kunao Temple, the oldest
Chinese Temple on the island. We returned to the hotel for R&R and an early
night! Back to ship life tomorrow.
