Well, what can I say...snow, dense fog, road closures and heavy traffic caused a three hour delay in starting our overland journey to The Great Wall and Beijing. We made the best of the situation, adjusted our planned itinerary and our group, Ann, Cathy, Carole, Ellie, Gerald, Ian, Pamela and I were off to explore China. After leaving the cruise terminal it took 3.5 hours to reach the Great Wall and luck have it, the fog cleared and we experienced partly blue skies at the Wall. The Mutianyu is one of the best-preserved and well known Great Wall sections. Some of the watchtowers are seldom seen along other sections and quite rare in the architectural history of the Great Wall. I have been to this part of the wall at other times of the year and the surrounding natural scenery is breath-taking....the wall and the surrounding mountains were partially covered by snow, making it quite majestic. We made our way to Beijing, had a great Chinese dinner, checked into the hotel and walked to the Forbidden City for some night photos. Despite our late start and frigid temperatures, we had a very enjoyable day with some very good friends. This is a two part blog, this is part one.
Thanks Jeff, it has been 5 years, looks like the same section we went to. Those risers on the steps are something. Appreciate the effort you put into this.
