Day 55 Manila, Philippines (Part 2 of 2)

Here are the remaining photos from my fabulous day in Manila & Corregidor….

Day 55 Manila, Philippines (Part 1 of 2)

Today was a wonderful sail into the harbor of Manila Bay and a welcome that couldn’t possibly be matched anywhere.  I decided to go to Corregidor Island for a tour today.  During World War II, Corregidor played an important role during the invasion and ultimately the liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese. Corregidor was heavily bombarded in the latter part of the war which left the island in ruins.  Today the island serves as a memorial to all the brave men and women who lost their lives during the ferocious campaign.  The ruins left on the island serve as a military memorial to American, Filipino and Japanese soldiers who served or lost their lives on the island. The tour was quite amazing and very sobering when you hear about all that went on there.  I am glad I went there if for no other reason than to pay my respects to all the braves soles who fought there.  As a bonus, I got some nice looks at the Manila skyline as we sailed back into the city unlike the skyline hidden in smog in the early morning.  Tonight we were entertained by Debby Bacon on the aft deck as she played and sang under the stars with Manila as the backdrop.  Nice evening!!!  Once again, I have split my blog into two sections…..
