Day 17 Nagasaki, Japan (Part 1 of 2)

Another magnificent day in Japan….  Today we visited Nagasaki, a bit of a sobering place because of the Atomic bomb that was dropped here in 1945 but a nice place to visit none-the-less….  Set out early with the Atomic Bomb Museum, the Peace Park and the hypocenter of the atomic bomb as our starting point.  We got there early, before the crowds which was nice but large groups of school kids were there visiting.  It does have an effect on you while you are there and is certainly thought provoking.  We had a nice tour and then headed out to the Suwa Shrine where the Nagasaki Kunchi Festival is held.  We ran into several groups of performers for the festival during the day with Chinese (oops, Japanese) Dragons, Geishas, drummers and all kinds of children and adults performing.  It was great.  We also visited several other temples such as, the Kofukuji Temple, the Sofukuji Temple and the Confucian Temple & The Museum of Successive Generations.  We also visited the Spectacles Bridge, name because with the reflection, looks like a pair of glasses.  Turned out to be a pretty amazing day!!!!

  1. We've enjoying following your adventures, Jeff, and have loved your photos, especially those of the Amsterdam family which we all love so much. Had a great two day visit in Gucamole with Ann and Cathy. See you in a few months.
