Day 69 Easter Island

Today was an exciting day on many levels…  First of all we are at Easter Island, how exciting is that????  Not too many people get to visit this very remote and mysterious island.  Secondly, the Captain & his crew performed miracles getting us ashore.  Hats off to them for a job well done!  Mike, Janet, Brad & I went ashore at the alternate landing site of Anakena Beach, the same location we went ashore last year.  The only probel was that our rental car was in town at Hanga Roa where we were supposed to go ashore.  The rental car people gave us a ride into town and we picked up our car and we were off exploring Easter Island.  We headed north first to Ahu Tahai and foloowed the coast road all the way up to Ahu Te Peu where we headed south to Ahu Akivi.  The Moai were just magnificent!  Then we headed to the coast road alonf the southern part of the island to go to the quarry.  We spent quite a bit of time exploring the quarry before headed to Ahu Tongariki with its 15 Moais….  Then it was off back toward town to see Orongo and Rano Kau volcano.  Finally we went back to Anakena where we once again, checked out the Moais.  It was a magnificent day at Easter Island.  Tonight we had the Filipino Crew show which was just amazing.  They really did a fantastic job….  It is a shame that such a fantastic day could end so poorly with Holland America, once again, failing to deliver reasonable internet services….
