Today, it was an early wakeup call as we sailed into Puerto Limon, Costa Rica in the early morning hours.... Nice sail in, very scenic with lush vegetation along the way. Ann, Cathy & I left the ship shortly after 7:00 in order to get an early start on the day. Our plan was to grab a taxi and go out for a tour of the Tortuguero Canals.... I have been to the canals on numerous occasions but when you are in Costa Rica, it is always a sure bet to go for an Eco-tourism adventure. We hooked up with a taxi driver, Charlie, who briskly took us on our way to the canals..... We got their so early that the boats weren’t quite ready.... The thing we wanted was to get our own private which worked out just great! The Tortuguero Canals are a series of natural and man- made waterways that form a river system and ecological wildlife refuge that goes from the Caribbean Sea all the way to Nicaragua... We had a magnificent boat ride with our driver, Eduardo, who showed us all sorts of wildlife and beautiful scenery... We saw a large selection of birds, sloths, iguanas, lizards, monkeys, turtles and crocodiles.... It was a fabulous tour of the wonders of the Costa Rican waterways and ecological sights. We then made our way back to Puerto Limon where we spent the next few hours touring the city. It was a great day!!!
