We arrived at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal a new stop for me and cleared immigration. Ann, Cathy, Ellie and I were off to explore Hong Kong and surrounding territory. The cruise terminal provided a free shuttle to the Diamond Hill, the nearest metro station. This was a very good opportunity to visit the Nan Lian Garden directly across the street from the shuttle stop. Nan Lian Garden is a beautiful serene garden in the middle of a busy urban center modern city. The garden is adjacent to the Chi Lin Nunnery and is tribute to traditional Chinese landscaping and the architecture represents the Tang Dynasty...a very pleasant stop. We then took the subway to Nathan Road to visit our favorite optician Thomas Cheung. Walked to the Star Ferry and took the boat to Hong Kong from Kowloon and onto Cheung Chau Island. The island is 40 minutes by ferry from Hong Kong and is a world away from the skyscrapers, bustling streets and traffic of Kowloon. There is are no vehicles allowed on the narrow streets of this fishing village. Fishing boats ply the harbor and the island is known for some of the best seafood in Hong Kong...a nice afternoon. We returned to Hong Kong via the fast ferry, made a quick stop at the Apple Store and made our way by subway to the Temple Street/Night Market for some shopping. We came back to the ship early as we need to prepare for our overland to Vietnam Mekong Delta tomorrow. This is part one of a two part blog.
