Day 70 Hilo, Hawaii (Part 1 of 2)

It was a rainy drizzly day for most of the day with an occasional downpour…..  We did manage to make the most of it.  Brad & I were the first ones off the ship and we headed for the airport to pick up a rental car.  We had about an hour to spare before we picked up our fellow traveling companions so we went to Rainbow Falls and stopped by for a photo of the statue of the Great Kamehameha….  Then is was back to the port to pick up our friends to take them to the airport for a 55 minute helicopter tour with Safari Helicopters….  We hoped for good weather but we had quite a bit of rain on our flight.  I felt pretty lucky to get, what I think, are some pretty good photos considering the conditions.  After our helicopter tour we headed north to Akaka Falls taking in the scenic views along the way on 4 mile Pepe’ekeo Scenic drive and hiking down the Donkey trail.  All in all, despite the conditions, it was a great day.  The blog is in two parts, here is part one…. Hope you enjoy it!
