Savannah Day 3

Today was an incredibly sad day for me. A very close friend of mine, Yvonne van Essen, lost her battle with cancer. She was strong and full of optimism up until the end. She beat the cancer but the fight was just too hard on her in the end. I will miss her so very very much.  My condolences to her dear husband Aart.  All your friends are here for you....  Life just isn't fair sometimes....  For here, it was another hot, steamy day in Georgia....  Of course we made time for the beach, it's too hot to do anything else.  It gave me some time to reflect on the sad news from Spain.  As for the beach,  it was a nice distraction today as we were able to watch a couple of weddings as we sat on the beach.  Of course, for me, I'd rather sit on the beach any day than participate in a wedding... that's just me.  I pray my friend Aart has a peaceful night.....

Savannah Day 2

Today was a very, very full day....  It started early in the morning with a photo trek along the route from Tybee Island to Savannah with a major stop at Ft Pulaski National Monument.  The fort was very interesting.  When built for the Civil War it was thought to be impregnable.  This was proven wrong on April 10th & 11th 1862 when Union troops directed rifled artillery rounds at the fort breaching the southeast section.  The fort was quite amazing.  The weather during this little photo trek was unbelievably hot and humid...  I had water just pouring out of me....  Once I had my fill of photos for the morning (just too hot), it was off to the beach.  The afternoon continued to be very hot and humid but the water was magnificent.  Aside from getting stung by jellyfish numerous times the day was fabulous.  This evening we went into Savannah for dinner and a bit of touring (let's not forget the shopping).  It was a great day overall....
