Day 5 At Sea

Today was probably the best pool day yet…. The only problem was that I had to visit the doctor.  Had a bit of an accident yesterday afternoon and screwed up my knee….  Something like a tear in my meniscus….  That is just what I needed on the beginning of a 7 month voyage.  Oh well, I’ll see how that works out when I visit Volcanoes National Park outside of Hilo Hawaii tomorrow….  Tonight was a very special occasion. Jim & Carol Hausman, friends for the 2012 World Voyage were unable to make it this year so they invited a group of their friends to get together and have dinner at the Pinnacle Grill.  It was a wonderful evening, highlighted with meeting some wonderful people.  Great day!!!!

  1. Know a good surgeon in Dallas that can fix you right up.

  2. Oh no!! If they didn't think surgery was necessary, I sure hope they got you a strong brace to help stabilize the joint. Fingers crossed!!

  3. You might want to rest your knee/leg/body etc for the next few days keeping your weight off it. I did that snow skiing years ago...........your mind may be 21, but the body is not. :-)

  5. My wife is an ER nurse and she worked almost 2 years with a torn meniscus. It should be too much of a problem, but you will something to deal with some pain. Good luck. Thanks for the updates and pictures.

  7. Jeff, is there a qualified crew doctor aboard? Are you confident with the ship's service? ..... but you certainly cannot comment here. Suspect there might a passenger doctor aboard for a second opinion. During your Hilo stop, you might consider getting a second opinion. It might be worth it for peace of mind. Hilo facilities can at least scan your knee, with results later. Take it easy. Stay off your feet as much as possible. Good Luck. T&C
