Zuiderdam MegaVoyage 2018-2019, Oslo, Norway, Part 1 of 2

Well, another first for me, Oslo Norway...I got up at 4:30 am for sail in photos...back to the really cool temperatures. I’ve visited Norway before and have always been impressed, first time for Oslo!  This was a short day in Oslo so we got off the ship at 7:00 am for our walking tour of the city. The ship had a great docking location directly below Akershus Fortress and Castle. We left the ship and followed the harbor around to the Opera House, a large white marble structure built to resemble an iceberg…. We walked pasted the central train station, to the tiger statue located below the Ruter Tower, which was the starting point for our walking tour from my Rick Steve’s Norway book.   Then we entered the Karl Johan’s Gate, a Grand boulevard leading directly from the train station to the Royal Palace.  This route took us past the Oslo Cathedral...where we saw the Red Heart commemorating the 77 deaths following the July 2011 massacre. In what is known as Oslo’s Golden Center, we viewed splendid monuments and buildings around Karl Johan Gate...the Parliament buildings, the Grand Hotel, the University, the National Theatre, the Royal Palace, as well as many squares, parks, cafés and art galleries. Unfortunately, near the end of our touring, the weather turned nasty so we returned to the ship early but lucky for us the rain held off enough so that we were able to accomplish exactly what we wanted to see in Oslo...this is a beautiful little city and we are looking forward to our return in early July.  After we departed, I took photos as we sailed out from Oslo….  Just beautiful!!!
