2018 Grand World Voyage, Day 93, Walvis Bay, Namibia (Part 1 of 2)

This morning we cleared Immigration and Ann, Cathy and I left the port area to walk into Walvis Bay before our afternoon flight over the Namib desert. Upon exiting the port the local artisans were starting to setup their wares along the side of the road. We decided to take a taxi to the Walvis Bay Lagoon home to a variety of birds, including hundreds of flamingos wading in the wetlands. We returned to the port, did some shopping and back on the ship for lunch. Scenic Flights picked us up after lunch and we drove to Swakopmund to catch our flight. Our flight took us south to Walvis Bay Water Works, then over the stunning sand dunes of the Namib desert. Next, we flew over Sandwich Harbor, one of the largest natural wetlands in the Southern Hemisphere, this is a dramatic landscape where the towering desert dunes meets the sea. Turning north we flew up the Skeleton Coast to see the Shawnee shipwreck. Again over Walvis Bay, we could see the Salt Works and our ship. We had a good day and a great flight to see God’s Art Gallery.... Two days at sea then Angola...a new stop for me.
