2017 Grand World Voyage, Day 159, Mekong Delta, Vietnam (Part 1 of 3)

Today, Ann, Cathy, Ellie and I headed for the Mekong Delta region to Cai Be, a charming small town, a couple of hours south of Ho Chi Min City.  With our guide Thanh, we arrived at Cai Be and embarked on a traditional sampan for our first cruise through the Mekong Delta Region on the Cai Be River.  There were lots of sights to see on the river, many vendors, traditional crafts, home factories, churches, temples and a traditional house. The Catholic Cathedral in the background of the floating market is a great backdrop for photos.  There are numerous small canals in the area of Cai Be, which is very inviting to a discovery tour by sampan such as ours.....  We had a traditional lunch at the beautiful La Longanier restaurant on the river.  After lunch, we spent 2 hours cruising the Dong Hoa canal just taking in everyday life in Vietnam.  Our last stop of the day was Vinh Long to tour the market and then we made our way to Can Tho to spend the next two days.  Travelling to the Mekong region was a new experience for me and what a great day we had!  I almost forgot to mention, lots of shopping opportunities for the ladies.....  This is part 1 of a 3 part blog.
