2017 Grand World Voyage, Day 119, At Sea

Alas, the good weather from yesterday has left us, at least momentarily….  The day was spent sitting mid ship, reading and chatting with friends.  I am also giving a lot of thought about whether or not to continue this lifestyle at sea.  I am really torn as to whether or not I continue and board the ship once again next September for another 7-8 months or cancel and go a different direction in my adventures around the world.  I have given myself until the end of January to decide…  If I continue, a payment is due by then……  I’m clueless as to what I will decide.  Some of this has been triggered by my recent accident and how the whole thing was handled.  I am recovering slowly, very slowly……  Looking for much better weather tomorrow!

  1. Hi, Jeff.....
So sorry that you are injured, and hope things slowly heal over time.
I have mentioned this before; here goes again. I know you are a walker. Assuming you improve physically......In late August and all of September, consider walking the Camino Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. The most popular route is the Camino Frances from St Jean Pied de Port in SW France to Santiago, Spain. The 482 mile walk takes around 7 weeks.
It will be a time to think, and also meet wonderful people from all over the world. It's a very social experience. You will change, too.
I know you can do it. I suspect that very few passengers aboard the Amsterdam are even capable of such a grueling day after day extended walk (11 to 19 miles a day after day). You will have aches, pains, blisters, maybe more.... some discomforts take a few months to recover from.
If nothing else, google it, watch a few YouTube videos, and ponder things in your life.
But, suspect your D7100 is too heavy to haul. Everything you carry totals maybe 19 pounds.
    Enjoy what you have.

  3. Very tough decision for you. It is very unfortunate you are not only injured but upset. This reminds me of how upset you were with the internet a couple of years ago. Whatever you decide I hope you blog about it. I have followed you for way to long to stop now. :)

  4. Jeff, sailing has been in your blood and HAL has been your family including the staff. Make your decision on what makes you happy and complete and realize that administration is not part of your family. Although they have been in a special relationship with you, it is not the same as all your friends and as you can see, never will be. So you have a choice to continue on as usual and thank God for the people who love you and you can rely on. Make that a part of your decision. You look forward each year to all the friends you are going to see on each cruise and anticipate their arrivals. Do you want to skip that next year? Put the rest out of your mind. Bless you.
