Day 173 Inle Lake, Myanmar (Part 1 of 3)

We got up very early this morning and flew from Bagan to Heho, the gateway airport for Inle Lake…  We were off and running soon after arriving. The itinerary for today was as follows:  “Drive from Heho to Nyaungshwe on the edge of Inle Lake stopping on the way to visit Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery.  In the afternoon, pick up at hotel. Enjoy a half day boat trip on Inle Lake - a photographer’s dream. Its calm waters are dotted with floating vegetation and fishing canoes, to which scenic hills provide the perfect backdrop. See the lake’s unique ‘leg rowers’ - Intha fishermen who row standing up with one leg wrapped around a single oar, leaving their hands free to manipulate the conical fishing net. Stop at Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the holiest religious site in southern Shan State. Pass endless floating gardens, where Intha lake dwellers grow fruit and vegetables. Continue by boat to visit Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, one of the oldest on the lake, where you can see exquisite Buddha statues which are more than 200 years old.  Return to your hotel by boat as the sun lowers and the light softens over the lake.”  That is pretty much what we did…  It was an amazing day, unfortunately I took over 1200 photos and it has been a very long day and the internet here is horrible so, I’ll post part one….  Catch up when I can…

  1. Honestly i feel that I should pay you for these fabulous pictures... in fact all of your pictures. You are so generous and take so much time to post these. Thank you so much. (When we were in Mynamar ten years ago there was no internet service at all.)

  2. Jeff....
Striking photos. If I'm not mistaken, seems like you are taking some photos with the camera closer to the ground. The lower camera height seems to impart more realism; depends on the scene/subject. Play around with that more.
You're having a blast. Stay safe!
