Day 167 Penang, Malaysia (Part 1 of 2)

We arrived very early into Georgetown, Penang…  Due to inadequate dock space, we first had to conduct tender operations for the first half of the day.  Brad, Ann, Cathy 7 I were off on the first tender and on our way.  The plan for the day, for the most part, was to visit temples and other places of worship.  First, we headed out to Penang Hill for what was to be scenic views…  unfortunately the sun was in the wrong place and it was very hazy.  There was a Hindu Temple and Mosque up on the hill but not much else of interest because of the glare.  The next stop was fabulous!  We went to the Kek Lok Si Chinese Buddhist Temple, the largest in Malaysia.  It is also called the Temple of the Ten Thousand Buddhas….  We had to go high on a hill to get to the temple and the sights we amazing.  What a beautiful temple!!!!   Next we went back toward town and visited two places across the street from each other.  The Thai Buddhist Temple (Wat Chaiya) has the fourth largest reclining Buddha in the world, 108 feet long.  Quite an amazing place.  The other temple, The Burmese Buddhist Temple, across the street was very beautiful as well…..  We then had our taxi driver take us back to the ship where we caught the last tender back before the ship actually docked once space was available.  I went back out later with Ann & Cathy and walked about, checking out Fort Cornwallis and snapping a few shots of the lighthouse.  It was a wonderful day!
