Day 116 Machu Picchu, Peru

What a difference a day makes…..  Yesterday we were blessed with magnificent weather until the late afternoon storms came and this morning was not very good.  We went out on the mountain this morning for a couple of hours and saw various levels of visibility from zero to slightly above marginal.  After the spectacular weather yesterday it gave Machu Picchu a more mystical appearance.  After our 2 hour visit to Machu Picchu we went down into Aguas Calientes to catch the train.  We shopped for an hour or so then sat at a café and waited for our train to Ollanta.  From Ollanta we were picked up and taken to the airport in Cuzco, a two hour rif=de away.  The train trip and car ride were both very scenic which made for a nice ride.  We caught our flight back to Lima Peru and a short taxi ride later we were safely back aboard the ms Amsterdam.  What a great trip!!!!

  1. The fog/low skies make the place look even more dramatic and mystic. What an exciting tour!

  3. Absolutely loved your photos and commentary on Cuzco and Machu Picchu. I was there in 1988, and your posts have brought back some marvelous memories (and a desire to dig up that photo album from my trip!) Thank you so much for sharing!!

  4. I had gotten far behind; so now playing catch up. I'm glad you were blessed w/ different weather on that 2nd day. As Kristi stated above, the low clouds would have (for me at least) made it an almost "religious experience". Simply spectacular!
