It's about time to set sail again....

The time is fast approaching to head out again.  I fly to Los Angeles a week from today to join my home away from home the ms Amsterdam.  I have spent a couple of years aboard that ship and it is truly home to me.  I look forward to hitting the high seas once again.  I will see my good friend Aart in L.A. and I am very excited about that....  We have much to talk about.  This world voyage will be very interesting.  I have many close friends on board and I will see some old friends along the way.  In Buenos Aires I will see my old friend Leny Ferrero, an exchange student from my high school days.  In Sydney I will see Robert & Bronwyn Newton who I have sailed around the world a few times with in past years.  In Barcelona I hope to see my friend Jesus Garcia whom I met on the 2007 World Voyage and who publishes  a travel site in Spain at http://cruceroadicto.com/  Jesus has honored me by translating and publishing my blog on his site for the cruise aficionados in Spain.  I may even, if time permits, see a few other friends in Sydney who will be on board the Princess World Voyage.  Having friends around the world make these voyages even more special.  Another highlight will be a trip to Bangkok & Chaing Mai in Thailand with my friend Brad for almost a week.....  Should be a great photo adventure.  Of course, one of the major highlights will be returning to Antarctica, so beautiful that words couldn't possibly do it justice.  I will try with my photos.  So am I getting excited, you bet I am.....

  1. Hi Jeff,

I am so looking forward to your next World Cruise. I hope you will be luckier than we were in April, when we weren't able to go ashore at Easter Island due to the water at the landing point on the island for the tenders being a little rough, a huge disappointment for all on board the Royal Princess. Take care and I am looking forward to more of your wonderful photos.

  3. The water at Easter Island can be very rough. I am very lucky to have been there twice. The last time the water was so rough at the anchorage that tendering would have been impossible. The Captain sailed to the North side of the island where the seas were calmer and had the crew put together a floating dock of sorts and we successfully got ashore. He and his crew accomplished amazing things that day....

Glad to see you are off on your travels next week, having just returned from 3 weeks cruising on Seabourn in the Adriatic, have plenty to do before leaving here at the end of the year. We are spending first 3 weeks travelling and playing golf in Argentina and join the good ship Amsterdam in Buenos Aires. Like you I am very excited about returning to Antartica, a photographers paradise! and also meeting all the "old" friends on Amsterdam. See you in BA!! Safe travels.... Elaine Jones
